Steroid injections

Steroid injections are usually performed under CT guidance by a radiologist.  It involves an injection of a long-lasting steroid (“Cortisone”) and an anaesthetic numbing agent. These are used to localise and treat back/leg pain that may be caused by inflammation or swelling.

Types of injections include:

  • Facet Joint Injections
  • Foraminal Joint Injections
  • Epidural Injections

The procedure usually takes between 15 and 30 minutes and you will be asked to wait 30-40 minutes afterwards before leaving to allow us to observe you.
